Sign up for Vietnam trip!

Vietnamese Culture: a trip with the spirit of generously giving and gracefully receiving
The purpose of this trip is to visit the people of Vietnam and learn about their culture by visiting significant cultural and historical sites. Not merely a site-seeing venture, students may help others in need (projects like helping victims of Agent Orange and their caregivers, HIV positive or abandoned children, or farmers) while learning about the authentic Vietnamese ways of life. Plans to visit sites that will bring appreciation for the richness of the country and the people, will balance out the hard work we hope to donate to others. We plan to visit the North (Sapa, Ha Long Bay, Hanoi) and the South (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Cu Chi Tunnel area) on this trip .

Dates: March 7-17
Approximate cost: $2,200-2,500 (high estimate based on 7 participants depending on air fare)
Chaperones: Sue Lauther, Les Baird, with the help of Ngoc Nguyen, ’11.

Here are some insights into our trip:

Enjoy the absolutely delicious tropical fruits:

Visit Sapa - the most photogenic area, and the ethnic minorities:

Hanoi – Vietnam's capital with strong Communist influence:

(Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, The Old Quarter, Temple of Literature: The ancient center of learning and the Confucian religion, Silk, pottery, and snake (!!!) villages nearby, etc.)

Halong Bay ( The Bay of the Descending Dragon) - a World Heritage

Sight-seeing, and probably swimming around these 2000 spectacular islands

Ho Chi Minh city – Vietnam’s economic heart, also the largest and most exciting city. Visit: Independence Palace, Ben Thanh Market, Cu Chi Tunnels (a Vietnam’s key strategy in French Indochina and Vietnam War), etc.

Mekong Delta – see Southern agricultural life – growing rice, fishing, floating market

And spend some of your time helping Vietnamese in need(Ex: children suffering from Agent Orange used in Vietnam War)
